PHILADELPHIA BRANCH NAACP TO HOLD PRESS CONFERENCE TO DENOUNCE RACIAL VIOLENCE IN VA AND PRESIDENT TRUMPS EDUCATION BUDGET

PHILADELPHIA, PA— AUGUST 12, 2017 — The Philadelphia Branch of the NAACP, will hold a press conference tomorrow, Sunday, August 13, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. The press conference will take place at the new headquarters for the Philadelphia Branch at 4458-B, Germantown Avenue., (next door to the office of PA State Senator Sharif Street). Rodney Muhammad, President of the Philadelphia Chapter stated, I will outline in detail during the press conference the outrage and further disappointment we feel, with the actions of white supremacists, that occurred in Charlottesville, Virginia Saturday, and the lukewarm remarks President Trump offered. Also, all the branches of the NAACP have been given a “call to action” as it relates to what President Trump has planned for the education budget for America. President Trumps’ budget for education is a danger to a high quality education for all our children across the country and an impediment to student success.

Minister Rodney Muhammad pointed out, “President Trump’s proposal for education cuts includes Title 1 funding for disadvantaged students being cut by $578 million dollars, special education funding by over $110 million, Title II funding to support teacher professional development is targeted to be eliminated entirely. Funding to support literacy programs for high need students is slated to be eliminated entirely. And the list goes on.”
